Sometimes one finds a pearl in the ocean of pettiness called “Internet” and one of them accompanies me and a friend since almost two semesters through the, let me call it “less interesting” lectures.

I’m talking about “Achtung, die Kurve”, and exactly this game does now move to it’s next phase. What was played in hotseat-mode up to now has grown into a real online-multiplayer game in this new version. Though the game principle remains untouched. The goal is to survive the longest with a snake-like peg, a point which draws a line behind itself, while trying to constrain your opponents.

What sounds generally easy is going to become much more funny with the implemented powerups and powerdowns. To stay away from the own line, the opponents or the wall can turn into a true challenge when facing up to 6 players (even 8 with premium account). So far the game is in beta phase, which does not derogate the fun this game provides. Only the fact that the game is not interrupted after every single one of your opponents leave turned out to be a bit annoying, since the only thing you can do in this situation seems to leave for yourself or to stay until the very end to fight a soulless line, waiting for it to crush against a wall. But as i said the game is still in beta-phase so no real complains here. The developers surely have much more important feature to look into for now.

All there is left for me to do is to recommend visiting www.achtungdiekurve.net and take a look for yourself. Definitely an amazing pastime and not only while in university!

Yesterday 14.01.2012 the first Achtung die Kurve tournament found it’s end. However I was only able to advance to the quarter finals, it turned out to be a really amusing evening with a lot of good players and a surface impression of the strength of current “Achtung, die Kurve” opponents. It also let me realize that in the unlikely event of me reaching the finals, I would hav had absolutely no chance.

With only 26 participant, the first tournament of it’s sort was rather small which is perhaps due to the fact that “Achtung, die Kurve” is not just yet too known amongst online-gamers. However the 26 players who signed up to reach for first place gave themselves a run for their money and arranged for an entertaining evening.

First place went to “Maikkon” after a tense and close final. First price was a special accountmodification, which announces the entrance of no one else than the winner of the first “Achtung, die Kurve” tournament to everyone in the game when entering a match. A video of the finals was also recorded to give a first impression to everyone interested in this fine game (Special thanks to PerOellgaard for uploading).

Congratulations go to the winner Maikkon as well as huge thanks to the developer “Geert”, who made the whole event possible.

I for my share am looking forward to the next tournament and will start training after my exams to maybe hold out a few more rounds next time. If you are now motivated to try this game for yourself, don’t let me keep you from visiting www.achtungdiekurve.net.

So far,
